The race of Santa Claus on donkeys, which is a unique event in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), gathered the owners of noble animals in Capljina yesterday, in the costumes of the favorite character from Christmas and New Year’s stories and brought a special holiday touch to the south of our country.
This event was organized by the Equestrian Club ”Vranac”, in Mogorjelo, where a large number of citizens gathered to enjoy the unique event, and as the organizers said, the motive was to organize something unique in that town as part of the December holidays.
The organizer of the race from the Equestrian Club ”Vranac”, Ivan Dragicevic, says that, according to his knowledge, there is no such event anywhere in BiH, and that the race was held for the first time last year in Capljina and immediately became a sensation, which is why this year they invited all the owners of donkeys in BiH who want to join them at the event that pretends to become a tradition.
”This year we have competitors from Mostar, Ljubuski, and Capljina, and I hope that next year there will be even more participants from a wider area of our country,” Dragicevic stated.
The visitors rated this event as a real sensation, and Josip Simovic from Capljina, who won the race last year with his donkey and especially preparing to defend the title this year, also considers it special.
”I knew that this year there was strong competition and that competitors from other parts of BiH were coming, so I was preparing for this event throughout the year,” says Simovic.
In addition to the donkey race, an extremely rich accompanying event was organized, which during yesterday’s day in Capljina cheered up countless citizens, especially children with developmental disabilities, who were given special gifts by Santa Clauses on donkeys in the town square.
The organizers believe that the unique story in Capljina will in the foreseeable future become a kind of phenomenon in BiH and a recognizable tourist brand of that region, which is why they plan to organize a summer donkey race, convinced that it will be a tourist attraction in the south of our country, Klix.ba reports.
