The Red Cross Society of BiH (DCK BiH) is currently implementing a DREF operation that provides support in the form of money transfers for 200 households in 12 local communities that were affected by the floods in May this year.
Also, immediately after the floods, 300 households were helped in the form of material and technical equipment for the rehabilitation of the consequences of the floods. This project was supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) with 175,900 BAM.
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies also supported the DREF operation, which at the very beginning of the year, in eight local communities, helped 222 households in the form of cash assistance and 600 households in the form of material and technical equipment after the floods that hit the Krajina at the end of December 2022, with about 146,571 BAM.
Also, during both DREFs, educations were organized for citizens and Red Cross volunteers related to the health protection of the population of areas affected by floods.
Striving to contribute with its activities to the prevention and relief of human suffering, as well as to the protection of life, health and human dignity of all individuals in need, the Red Cross Society of Bosnia and Herzegovina also implemented cash assistance for the socially vulnerable population in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the delegation of the Swiss Red Cross in Bosnia and Herzegovina . It is a project that helped 624 households from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for which the Swiss Red Cross allocated BAM 171,250.
Also, in accordance with the mission and mandate of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, DCK BiH distributed solid fuel stoves to the most vulnerable population. Thus, thanks to the Italian Red Cross, 133 ovens were distributed in 17 bh. cities/municipalities. The total value of this project is 77,390 BAM.
Otherwise, the Red Cross Society of BiH strives to fulfill its public powers, as well as the goals and tasks defined by the Law on the Red Cross Society of BiH, adapting to contemporary trends in the international humanitarian sector. For humanitarian and pragmatic reasons, the international humanitarian sector, which includes the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, increasingly opts for support programs for beneficiaries in the form of cash transfers, instead of the current practice of distributing humanitarian packages that are the same for all beneficiaries regardless of diversity their needs.
The main feature of the cash transfer program is to promote empowerment and protect the dignity of users by giving them a certain degree of flexibility and choice. An additional benefit of using the cash transfer program is the multiplier effect, because by spending money in local markets, users increase the volume of local trade, which has a positive effect on the local economic market, the Red Cross of FBiH announced.
