The Parliament of Spain did not accept the proposal for the recognition of Kosovo’s independence today.
The proposal for the official recognition of Kosovo was submitted by the party Union for Catalonia (Junts), and it was rejected in the Spanish Parliament with 293 votes against, 25 votes for and 27 abstentions.
Although the proposal was voted on today, it was discussed at the session held on June 25.
The leading political parties in Spain, such as the Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE), the right-wing People’s Party (PP) and the far-right Vox, said in the debate that they would not support the recognition of Kosovo.
PSOE, PP and Vox, referring to the situations in the Basque Country and Catalonia, said that it is currently not possible to recognize Kosovo due to secession initiatives within the Spanish state.
