Due to the increased influx of migrants from the African region and the upcoming takeover of the Lipa camp by the state, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Una Sana Canton (USC) visited the camp today, where he discussed the situation on the ground and the next steps with the relevant services.
On that occasion, the Minister spoke with the Inspector of the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs Iris Žerić, the IOM camp coordinator Kenan Keserović, and Amir Imširević from the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies (DKPT). The delegation also included the Director of the Luka Correctional Institution Adem Demirović.
During the visit, the Minister was informed that there are currently around 440 migrants in the camp, and there is also an evident increase in the number of persons originating from the African region. Representatives of the IOM and the SPS confirmed that all operational activities in the camp are proceeding smoothly and without major challenges.
It was particularly emphasized that the Lipa camp is in a transition phase, during which the management – instead of the IOM – will be taken over by the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, more precisely the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs. The meeting was dedicated to exchanging information on the ongoing preparations and obligations within that process.
The institutions thanked the minister for the continuous and correct cooperation, emphasizing the important role of the USK MUP, whose officers provide daily support to the DKPT in maintaining security within the center.
The minister expressed gratitude and praised the professionalism of all services engaged in the camp – from the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs to the IOM – emphasizing that the stable functioning of Lipa relies precisely on their dedicated and professional work.
– The Service for Foreigners’ Affairs and the IOM are investing enormous efforts in managing the migrant situation, and members of the USK MUP provide daily support in ensuring order and security – said, among other things, Minister Habibija.
