The United States of America has joined the list of sponsors of the Draft Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, which will be on the agenda of the United Nations General Assembly on May 2.
The Srebrenica Memorial Center noted that for years the USA supported the protection of the memory of the victims of genocide, but also ensured the construction, establishment and survival of the Memorial Center.
They point out that this support represents the continuation of the US policy advocated by President Biden, which was confirmed to previous administrations by President Clinton, but also in his message from 2020 by the then Secretary of State Pompeo.
“Resolution of the House of Representatives of Congress passed in 2020 entitled ‘Condemning the genocide and other crimes against the Bosniak community committed by Bosnian Serb forces in Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina in July 1995.’ was adopted with the support of Republicans and Democrats, it once again confirmed the official policy of the USA on this issue.
They said that they do not forget the activities of President Biden and numerous other friends of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the nineties. At the same time, they express gratitude for everything that President Biden’s administration is doing today for our country.
“We welcome the efforts of the US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield. We work together to make this Resolution a message of peace, an opportunity for young people to learn the lessons of Srebrenica about the importance of protecting human rights and human lives. We invite the media and the public not to look back to statements that incite divisions, tensions and conflict, and that want to portray the noble idea of the Resolution as something it is not and incite general hysteria,” the Memorial Center said.
The Srebrenica Memorial Center notes that the institution established the Committee for Interreligious Dialogue, and that it was the first state institution to organize multi-ethnic visits and tributes to victims of other nationalities.
“We will never fall for the provocations of nationalists and those who abuse the victims of their people in order to relativize the genocide in Srebrenica. Only together can we build a society of hope, and a society of hope must be based on the values of truth and justice. Thank you to the USA for being our partner in this road”, conclude from the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
On the social networks of the Memorial Center in the last few days, the institution confirmed and expressed its gratitude for the support of the Resolution to Rwanda, Germany, New Zealand, Chile, France, Liechtenstein and Slovenia.
