The White House said US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing an additional 25 percent tariff on India in response to its continued purchases of Russian oil.
“In order to address the national emergency described in Executive Order 14066, I am determining that it is necessary and appropriate to impose an additional tariff on imports of items from India that directly or indirectly import oil from the Russian Federation,” the order said.
On Tuesday, Trump said the US would “make that decision” on sanctions against countries that buy Russian oil after talks between US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian officials in Moscow.
Trump accuses New Delhi of profiting from the resale of Russian oil.
