The United States of America welcomes the European Commission’s recommendation to open negotiations for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in the European Union – the US Embassy in Sarajevo said today.
“This sends a clear signal to the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina that their future lies in the Euro-Atlantic institutions,” the American embassy said in a post on the X platform.
Yesterday, the European Commission formally recommended the opening of accession negotiations between the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her speech at the plenary session of the European Parliament, assessed that Bosnia and Herzegovina has made more progress since it received candidate status than in more than a decade.
The final decision on the opening of accession negotiations is made by the EU Council, and the discussion will be held at the summit scheduled for March 21 and 22 in Brussels.
