Security structures are carefully monitoring the situation in the Middle East and the possibility of a wave of migrants who could once again seek passage to the EU via BiH, said the Director of the Service for Affairs with Foreigners of BiH Žarko Laketa.
Laketa pointed out that there is no danger for now. “We will see what will happen. No one can say for sure whether something will happen or not. We are monitoring the situation,” Laketa told Glas Srpske.
He confirmed that there are currently no problems with migrants, which is why they are reducing capacities in temporary reception centers in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the information of the Ministry of Security on the situation in the field of migration in BiH for the nine months of 2025, it was stated that 9,542 illegal migrants were recorded in that period, which is 55 percent less compared to the same period in 2024.
In the observed period, the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina recorded 2,616 persons illegally crossing or attempting to illegally cross the border, which is 73 percent less than in the same period in 2024.
The discovered persons were mostly from Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan, Egypt, Bangladesh and Pakistan, Srna writes.
