The Palestinian national football team has achieved the greatest success in its history after qualifying for the final round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Palestinian football is progressing day by day, despite the players being heavily affected in every possible way by Israeli bombings. This has evidently brought out the best in the Palestinian footballers, as they recently achieved their greatest success in history at the Asian Cup and have now advanced to the final round of World Cup qualifiers.
In the second round of Asian qualifiers, the Palestinians took second place in the group, and are behind Australia, and in front of Lebanon and Bangladesh.
Since the top two teams in each group qualify for the third, final round of qualifiers, this means that Palestine, along with Australia, will advance to the round that could see them make a historic World Cup appearance.
Palestine and Australia have advanced along with 16 other teams to the final round of qualifiers. This means there are 18 teams competing for spots in the 2026 World Cup. These 18 teams will be divided into three groups of six, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Teams also have additional chances, because, in addition to two first teams in the group, the third and fourth-placed teams in each group will qualify for a playoff. A total of nine Asian teams will play in the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States (U.S.).
In addition to qualifying for the final round of qualifiers, Palestine also secured a spot in the next Asian Cup by finishing second in their group, Klix.ba reports.
