Brazil and Ecuador have secured their place at next year’s World Cup.

In the 16th round of the South American qualifiers, Brazil defeated Paraguay at home in Sao Paulo with a score of 1:0, with which the new Brazilian coach, Italian expert Carlo Ancelotti, achieved his first victory in his new job in his second appearance.

A 0:0 draw with Peru was enough for Ecuador to qualify.

Thus, for now, 13 national teams that will perform at the World Cup are known, and another 35 places are open.

Previously, the Argentine national team secured a place at the WC, while the national teams of Japan, Iran, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Jordan and Australia did so through the Asian qualifications.

From the Oceania region, placement was secured by New Zealand, while Canada, Mexico and the USA have their place at the World Cup as hosts.

At the World Cup, which will be played on the North American continent from June 11 to July 19, 2026, 48 national teams will compete for the first time.
