A photo of a Palestinian woman holding the body of a girl killed in an Israeli attack in the war-torn Gaza Strip has won this year’s World Press Photo award.
Reuters photographer Mohamed Salem won the award for a photo taken at the mortuary of Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis on October 17th, 2023.
In the photo, Inas Abu Mamar holds the body of her five-year-old niece Saly, who died along with her mother and sister.
The girl’s body, which is held in the arms of a 36-year-old woman, is wrapped in a white cloth.
