After submitting the nomination files to UNESCO headquarters in Paris in January 2015, the extensive documentation for nomination of stecak on the World Heritage List has successfully undergone a process of so called technical evaluation. In September this year, a mission of experts of ICOMOS followed up, and the evaluation of 30 nominated necropolis took place, from which 22 were in B&H, 2 in Croatia, 3 in Serbia and 3 in Montenegro.
“Now we have entered a so-called lobbying phase, and we are presenting nominations to the scientific and general world public in order to popularize this extremely important project of these already mentioned 4 countries. Over the past months, we held two exhibitions in Vienna and Prague, which were organized by the Embassy of B&H in those countries. We are also planning an exhibition at UNESCO headquarters in Paris in the spring next year. I believe that everything will not be ended there,” stated Lovrenovic.
“We have to do everything that is in our power to make nomination of stecak to become a world topic, in order for it to be found on the World Heritage List of UNESCO by mid-2016,” concluded Lovrenovic.
