The idea, which arose with great enthusiasm over five years, has become a world story. The developed joint cooperation between farmers and the City of Trebinje, along with joint appearances on the market and the creation of recognizable products, proved to be more than successful.
“When we got the info that we are among the 100 in the world, it was great for us and we literally celebrated it in a way, and not later, as time went on, we were among the six, then three,” says Mirko Curic, mayor Trebinje. And then – the grand finale. All those who participated in the Herzegovinian House project were proud to receive this award. The effort, work and innovation so far have not been in vain for 130 small producers who diligently produce over 1,000 products and expand their offer every day, Federalna writes.
“Mostly these are some variations on the basic products that Herzegovina offers: prosciutto, cheese, honey, olive oil, recently domestic natural cosmetics, wine, brandy, liqueurs, jams, dried figs,” says Veselin Dutina, director of the Trebinje Agrarian Fund. Indigenous, domestic products are a lure for all guests who do not bypass this place when visiting Trebinje.
Trebinje is also aware that the demand for sustainable tourist products is growing. Consumers are looking for an authentic experience, a clean, safe environment and a protected natural and cultural heritage. Everything that can be found in this Herzegovinian city. The award, they say, came at the best time, so it is necessary to use it.
“To show people that domestic products are what every country needs to strengthen the domestic economy, therefore, increase the capital market and employment and job creation, and we at the local level try to support our farmers as much as possible through various programs that they will gather them again around the Herzegovinian house “, adds Dutina.
However, this does not mean that they want to keep the recipe for success of the Herzegovinian House to themselves.
