For more than six centuries, the monastery was a kind of guardian of the city of Fojnica and the faithful chronicler of countless events and famous people who marked the history of B&H and this region from ‘Kulin Ban to today’.
The friars, through centuries of their existence in B&H, had the reputation of guardians of cultural and historical heritage, and during countless unfortunate events have saved them from destruction.
So today this famous monastery is ‘hiding’ many valuable artifacts and historical documents of inestimable value, as well as thousands of books of which some date back to the 15th and 16th centuries.
The monastery’s treasures the friars preserved through time will soon be presented in their entire entirety and made available to the public with the opening of a new building where there is a museum, archive, art gallery, old and new library, and a gallery of numismatics, philately and articles of gold and silver.
The museum was built and decorated exclusively with donations, most from Croatia, and with significant help from the FB&H government and Elektroprivreda B&H, which introduced all installation in the value of more than 100.000 BAM.
