Trump and Bin Salman Sign Historic $142 Billion Military Deal

The United States and Saudi Arabia signed a $142 billion military-defense cooperation agreement in Riyadh today, May 13, in the largest such package in the history of relations between the two countries.

According to a White House statement, the United States will deliver “state-of-the-art military equipment and services” from more than a dozen American defense companies to Saudi Arabia. The agreement includes extensive supplies and technical support in five key areas: modernization of air and space capabilities, air and missile defense, maritime and coastal security, strengthening of ground forces and border surveillance and upgrading of communications and information systems.

The package also includes education, training and logistical support, as well as the modernization of Saudi military academies and health facilities.

The agreement was signed by US President Donald Trump and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Although the agreement is not legally binding, but rather a memorandum of understanding, this move sends a strong political message about deepening US-Saudi cooperation.

In addition to the defense part, additional memorandums and letters of intent were signed on cooperation in the areas of energy, mineral resources, justice, space and the fight against infectious diseases. According to US media, Saudi Arabia plans to purchase US weapons worth up to an additional $100 billion.

Donald Trump landed in Riyadh earlier today and was welcomed with royal protocol. Instead of the traditional red carpet, he was greeted with lavender, a symbol of Saudi Arabia’s natural heritage.

The fact that Crown Prince bin Salman personally welcomed him on the steps of the presidential plane attracted special attention – unlike Joe Biden’s visit in 2022, when only a diplomatic delegation was sent to meet him.

Trump did not arrive in Saudi Arabia alone – Elon Musk is also keeping him company.
