Trump believes that he will reach an Agreement with Putin

US President Donald Trump believes he will reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin when the Alaskans meet tomorrow.

Trump told Fox News that threats of sanctions against Russia likely played a role in Moscow agreeing to the meeting.

The US president added that he has three locations in mind for a follow-up meeting with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Trump will talk to Putin in the hope of achieving a cessation of fighting in Ukraine, but that a comprehensive resolution to the conflict will take more time.

“In order to achieve peace, I think we all understand that security guarantees will have to be discussed. Territorial disputes, claims and what the fighting is about will have to be discussed,” Rubio told reporters at the State Department.

Ahead of the Alaska summit, the Russian president said that the US president’s administration is making great efforts to end the fighting in Ukraine.
