US President Donald Trump said efforts to stop the further escalation of the war between Russia and Ukraine are “somewhat under control”.
“Rational discussions and good relations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are key to negotiations to end the war,” Trump said.
The US president spoke separately with Putin and Zelensky last week about ending the war.
The talks fell short of Trump’s goal of securing a 30-day ceasefire, but Putin agreed to halt Russian attacks on energy infrastructure during that period.
Zelensky said he was willing to accept such a pause.
