US President Donald Trump has extended the deadline for the sale of the Chinese app TikTok’s US assets by 75 days.
Trump said “tremendous progress” had been made but that more work needed to be done to get all the approvals for the sale.
He added that he looked forward to working with TikTok and China to reach a deal and that he did not want the app to stop operating in the US.
Owner ByteDance was given a deadline in January to sell its US assets or the short-form video app would face a ban in the country.
Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that the TikTok deal needs further work to secure all required approvals.
As a result, the deadline has been extended by 75 days, allowing TikTok to continue operating until mid-June.
