Former US president and Republican candidate in the presidential elections this year, Donald Trump announced that in a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he promised to end the war in Ukraine through negotiations.
In a post on social networks, Trump said that, if he wins the election, he will end the war between Ukraine and Russia even before he takes office. He added that the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 would not have happened if he had been the president of the USA at that time.
“Both sides will be able to come together and negotiate an agreement that will end the violence and open the way to prosperity,” Trump said in his announcement about the conversation with the Ukrainian president.
On the other hand, Zelensky also confirmed that he spoke with Trump, but in his announcement he did not mention efforts to end the war with the help of the USA.
There is widespread fear in the West that in the event of Donald Trump’s victory in the elections in November, there could be a reduction or complete cessation of military and financial aid to Ukraine.
