The President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump said in a short video address that the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington yesterday was an act of terror.

“Two National Guard members serving in Washington were shot at close range in a monstrous attack, from an ambush, just steps from the White House. This heinous attack was an act of evil, an act of hate and an act of terrorism. It was a crime against our entire nation, a crime against humanity,” said Trump.

Local police announced at a press conference, held about two and a half hours after the incident, that two National Guard members were wounded near the Farragut West Metro station, at around 2:15 p.m., not far from the White House.

Deputy Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department Jeffery Carroll said that the sole suspect in the shooting was subdued by other National Guard members and was arrested and transported to the hospital for treatment.

Trump said that, based on the best available information, the Department of Homeland Security believes the suspect in custody is a foreign national who entered the United States from Afghanistan, which he called “hell on Earth.”

Trump then blamed his predecessor, Joe Biden, saying that the suspect was “flying in by the Biden administration in 2021… his status was extended by a law signed by President Biden, a disastrous president, the worst in the history of our country.”

He added that every foreign national who entered the United States from Afghanistan under Biden must now be re-vetted.

“We must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of every foreign national from any country who does not belong here or who does not benefit our country,” Trump said, according to DPA.
