US President Donald Trump has expressed confidence that a full ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine will be achieved in the near future.
“We’re going to have a full ceasefire soon,” Trump told reporters at the White House.
He said that negotiations are currently underway to end the conflict, including on the division of territory.
“We’re going to have a treaty, which is being negotiated. It’s a treaty in terms of dividing territory and things like that. That’s being negotiated as we speak,” Trump said.
Asked whether he intended to impose new sanctions on Moscow over alleged attacks by the Russian military on Ukrainian territory, Trump stressed that Russia and Ukraine are fighting each other.
Trump added that a ceasefire has already been achieved in a number of areas and is holding up well so far.
