After more than a thousand days of Russia’s war against Ukraine, newly elected US President Donald Trump said that the war in Ukraine must be resolved.
Trump visited Paris on Saturday to attend the ceremony to reopen Notre Dame Cathedral, where he gave an exclusive interview to the French newspaper “Paris Match”.
The newly elected US President said that he had a good meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on that occasion.
He noted that there are many crises in the world and that a new one has arisen in Syria.
“Syria will have to take care of itself. We are not involved in Syria”, said Trump.
“I think we have to solve the Ukraine problem with Russia. Both of those countries are losing numbers that no one can believe. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers have been killed”, added Trump.
Trump also said that the Middle East is also a big priority for the US.
“But I think the Middle East is a less difficult situation than Ukraine with Russia”, claimed Trump.
Ahead of the ceremony to reopen Notre Dame Cathedral after five years, the first tripartite meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron, Zelensky and Trump was held at the Elysee Palace in Paris on Saturday.
The meeting marked the first face-to-face conversation between Zelensky and Trump since his election victory. They spoke by phone on November 6.
The reopening of Notre Dame Cathedral marks a significant milestone in a long restoration process that included extensive cleaning of the cathedral’s stone walls and structural repairs following a fire in April 2019 that investigators said was likely accidental.
