Trump to punish India with additional Tariffs for buying Russian Oil

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he will significantly raise tariffs on India for buying Russian oil.

“India not only buys massive amounts of Russian oil, but also sells most of the oil it buys on the open market for huge profits. They don’t care how many people are killed in Ukraine by the Russian war machine,” Trump said in a post on social media.

“Therefore, I will significantly increase the tariff that India pays to the US,” he said.

He did not elaborate on how much the customs duty will be.

Over the weekend, two Indian government sources told Reuters that India would continue to buy oil from Russia despite Trump’s threats.

A 25 percent tariff on Indian products came into effect on Friday as a result of India’s purchase of military equipment and energy supplies from Russia.

Trump has also threatened to impose 100 percent tariffs on imports from countries that continue to buy Russian oil unless Moscow reaches a peace deal with Ukraine.
