Members of US President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team are drawing up lists of people to be fired from the Defense Department, the British news agency Reuters reports.
The list is still in its early stages and could change as the Trump administration takes shape, sources familiar with Trump’s transition said, requesting anonymity to speak candidly about the plans.
One of the sources questioned the feasibility of mass layoffs at the Pentagon.
It also remained unclear whether Trump would support the plan, although he has previously spoken negatively about Pentagon officials who have criticized him.
Trump’s campaign did not comment on the allegations.
One of the sources said the new administration will focus on officers associated with Mark Milley, who served as Trump’s first chief of staff.
Milley has called Trump a fascist, and Trump allies have attacked him for being disloyal to the former president.
“Anyone who was promoted or started working because of Miley will be fired,” one of the sources told Reuters.
“There is a detailed list of everyone who was close to Miley, and they will be fired,” the source added.
Miley also refused Trump’s order to use the military to prevent outgoing President Joseph Biden from taking power in 2020, when Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol.
