Türkiye’s Mechanical and Chemical Industry (MKE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Egypt aimed at further strengthening cooperation in the defence industry during the Balkan Shield Defence Exhibition and Summit in Sarajevo.
The exhibition is being held for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina and has brought together defence industry representatives and officials from the region and beyond.
The MoU was signed with the Ministry of Military Production of the Arab Republic of Egypt with the aim of expanding existing cooperation and establishing new areas of joint activity. It covers the joint production and development of various defence industry products, particularly explosives.
The agreement is the first MoU signed at the Balkan Shield exhibition. It was signed by MKE General Manager İlhami Keleş and General Hesham Madkour Dakrouri, General Manager of Chemical Industries at Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production.
The signing ceremony was attended by Türkiye’s Deputy Minister of National Defence Salih Ayhan and Egyptian Minister of Military Production Major General Salah Soliman Gomblat.
The agreement represents another step toward expanding defence industry cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt, particularly in the areas of joint production, technological development and defence-related manufacturing.
Further progress in cooperation between the two sides is expected during the El Alamein International Airshow 2026, which will be held in Egypt from September 8 to 10.
The parties are expected to use the upcoming event to take additional steps toward strengthening their defence industry partnership and developing new areas of cooperation.
