The City of Tuzla has recently adopted a new Decision on Municipal Taxes, which regulates the collection system in more detail according to activities. The decision is extremely important because it specifically regulates the area of organizing entertainment and special games of chance, as well as the business premises in which these games are organized.
The new decision on municipal taxes introduces a special tax for organizers of games of chance. This is the result of harmonization with the current legislation of the Federation, but also the initiative of several councilors who want to specifically regulate this area. Hence several amendments.
“This is one of the biggest problems in our country and here we are, based on that, we have introduced taxes today where we have introduced 5,000 KM taxes on machines and 20,000 KM per facility where games of chance are organized,” said Mirza Malkočević, NiP councilor in the City Council of the City of Tuzla.
“We expect the federal government to do more to prevent pathological gambling because the question of how much these utility taxes will bring results in practice is because people with today’s technology have the opportunity and access to online betting,” says Omer Berbić, a councilor in the City Council of the City of Tuzla.
The decision on utility taxes has additionally relieved some areas, especially small businesses, and the amendments have also affected the reduction of taxes when organizing concerts, performing live music and the like.
“We believe that live music should not be an additional utility burden. When organizing concerts in general and live music in itself, we have enough taxes from VAT, payment for space, production and everything. So this would represent additional taxes for these categories,” says Zlatan Mehmedović, an SDP councilor in the City Council of the City of Tuzla.
“We believed that utility fees should not be a burden on businessmen or entrepreneurs in any case, so we took care of that, in the sense that utility fees do not jeopardize the viability and functioning or business operations, especially of small entrepreneurs,” adds Almir Šuta, Secretary of the Civil Service of the City of Tuzla.
As a reminder, utility fees represent revenue from the city budget and are used to finance the city’s legally prescribed responsibilities, including entrepreneurship development, social protection, culture and sports.
