Police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina arrested two citizens of Afghanistan, suspected of the criminal offense of human smuggling and international human trafficking.
The suspects are accused of illegally transferring several migrants from the territory of BiH to the territory of the Republic of Croatia and the European Union for a long period of time, in order to achieve illegal property benefits, for agreed monetary compensation. They found trucks in the parking lot near the border crossing that were waiting to cross the state border and hid migrants in the cargo spaces of the trucks without the driver’s knowledge, thus illegally transporting a large number of migrants across the state border.
The suspects are also accused of exploiting a minor male foreign citizen for the purpose of sexual exploitation, in such a way that they physically, mentally and sexually exploited the said victim with the use of force and threats and taking advantage of his state of helplessness on several occasions.
After questioning the suspects, the acting prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina will make a decision on initiating a motion to determine a detention measure and continue investigative activities in the case.
The BiH Prosecutor’s Office, together with the competent police and security agencies, undertakes intensive activities in the fight against all forms of human trafficking and exploitation of the helpless and difficult position of victims, for the purpose of sexual, labor or other exploitation, in order to punish the perpetrators and provide assistance and protection to the victims.
