Unofficial Statement: Pope Francis to Visit BiH Next Year

pope francisThe state delegation led by the BiH Presidency member Dragan Čović met with Pope Francis and handed him an official invitation to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I invited the Holy Father to visit BiH and it seems that according to the plans for 2015 the visit will happen. We have to work on it as yet another message of encouragement that the Holy Father gave to us when we faced severe flooding, when he stood for all the people in BiH that were suffering and helped us in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the damage, spiritually and financially,” said Čović to FENA after the audience with Pope Francis.

A Croat member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina says that in a lengthy and very cordial and friendly conversation he informed the Head of the Catholic Church on the situation in BiH and plans to stabilize BiH and relax relations between the three nations that are still burdened by scars of the war.

Unavoidable topic of the meeting with the state delegation led by BiH Dragan Čović with Pope Francis was also a delay in the implementation of the Basic Agreement between BiH and the Holy See.

“I am deeply convinced that next year we will try to resolve all the issues treated in this bilateral agreement, when it comes to basic human rights of all religious officials, not only Catholics but also Orthodox and Muslims.

Also, it is necessary to resolve the issue of religious holidays which must be part of a legislative solution, so that in some way we take responsibility for what we have signed,” said Čović to FENA.
