US Ambassador Dorothy Shea told an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the Middle East in New York today that the United States was “working tirelessly” to free the hostages and end the war in Gaza, and that today’s emergency meeting “undermines” those efforts, the BBC reported.
Shea added that Israel had accepted three ceasefire agreements that Hamas has rejected.
“This war could end today if Hamas releases the hostages,” Shea told the Security Council.
She said UN members “used today’s meeting” to accuse Israel of genocide, a claim she insisted was “proven false”.
She added that the US was working on three points – addressing humanitarian needs, releasing hostages and achieving peace. She also accused the Security Council of focusing on the first point without realizing that they were linked.
She said the US had increased humanitarian support to Gaza, along with Israel, through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
In her address, Shi called on the UN Security Council to demand that Hamas release all hostages and disarm.
