On the occasion of the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the crime in Kravice near Bratunac, the US Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced that they were shocked by the decisions of the local authorities to ban the families of the victims from entering this complex.
Among other things, the US Embassy emphasized that BiH leaders at all levels have a deep responsibility to honor all civilian victims.
“This includes providing access to places of suffering for the families of the victims. This is essential both for the families to pay tribute to the victims and for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to move forward,” the Embassy points out.
However, they emphasize that the decision of Chief Rankic does not change the judgments of the courts.
“The decision does not change the fundamental fact that genocide took place in and around Srebrenica in July 1995, including in Kravica, but it hinders the prospects for reconciliation, which is necessary for all people in BiH to live the peaceful and prosperous lives they deserve,” the US Embassy concludes.
