US President Joe Biden has chosen US diplomat Michael Murphy as the next US ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, the White House announced yesterday.

Murphy is a U.S. Foreign Service veteran with 29 years of experience who currently serves as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.

His portfolio includes European security, conventional arms control and Arctic security, according to a biography on the State Department website.

Murphy was previously the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Kosovo from 2009 to 2012, and three years earlier he was a political adviser at the US Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He currently holds the diplomatic rank of Minister Adviser.

It is not yet known when the Senate will take over Murphy’s nomination, and the Council is going on a summer break in two weeks, so a number of items from Biden’s legislative agenda will be on hold,BHRT writes.
