The football players of Bosnia and Herzegovina defeated Italy in Zenica and qualified for the World Cup, and the president of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vico Zeljković, said that he was overjoyed at the great success.
“This is a great success for our football and a confirmation of everything we have built in the past period. I congratulate the players and the coaching staff on their outstanding performances and well-deserved qualification for the World Cup. They showed character, quality and togetherness when it was most needed.
From the very beginning, together with director Emir Spahić and coach Sergej Barbarez, we set a clear long-term goal – qualification for Euro 2028. However, we have already made a step forward and won a place in a major competition.
What is particularly pleasing is the fact that we have built a system and formed a team that has the potential to play a significant role in European and world football in the next ten years.
New challenges lie ahead of us, but also an opportunity to further progress and worthily represent BiH football at the biggest football event. Once again, I congratulate everyone on this great success – this is just the beginning,” said Zeljković.
Let us recall that our national team defeated Italy in the play-off final after a penalty shootout.
After 90 and then 120 minutes, the score was 1:1, and in the penalty shootout, our team won 4:1.
The Dragons will play in Group B at the World Cup with the teams of Canada, Qatar and Switzerland.
