Vladimir Vukcevic, Prosecutor Who Brought the Balkans’ Most Notorious War Criminals to Justice, Dies

Serbia’s first war crimes prosecutor, Vladimir Vukčević, passed away today at the age of 75.

The news of Vukčević’s death was confirmed to Belgrade media by his friend and associate Bruno Vekarić.

Vukčević was born in 1950 in Belgrade, where he completed elementary and high school. He graduated from the Belgrade Faculty of Law in 1973 and passed the bar exam in 1976.

He was elected deputy public prosecutor in the First Municipal Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade in April 1978, and served as a war crimes prosecutor from 2003 to 2015.
