Von der Leyen: Nuclear Safety is of Key Importance

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen pointed out that the development of events in Iran is very worrying and called on all parties to show maximum restraint, protect civilians and fully respect international law.

“We remain in close contact with our partners in the region. I confirm our firm commitment to preserving regional security and stability,” Von der Leyen announced on “X”.

She emphasized that ensuring nuclear security and preventing any actions that could further escalate tensions or undermine the global non-proliferation regime are of key importance.

“The EU has adopted extensive sanctions in response to the actions of Iran’s murderous regime and Revolutionary Guards and has consistently promoted diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the issue of the nuclear and ballistic programs through negotiations,” Von der Leyen said.

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for foreign policy and security, Kaja Kalas, assessed that the latest events throughout the Middle East are dangerous and pointed out that the bloc is coordinating diplomatic options with Arab partners.

Kalasova said that she spoke with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sara and that the European consular network is engaged in facilitating the departure of EU citizens.

“Unnecessary EU personnel are withdrawing from the region,” stressed Kalas.
