The United States is sponsoring the proposal for a resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, as the commemoration of historical truths and the acceptance of facts move the region towards the path of reconciliation, the US State Department announced.
The appropriate commemoration of that crime, as well as the memory of the thousands of those who lost their lives at that time, is in line with the earlier efforts of the United Nations to recognize and commemorate other cases of genocide,” states the State Department’s response to the Voice of America’s question about the proposed resolution.
It is added that the resolution is not directed against any country, nor does it impose collective responsibility on any specific ethnic group, as well as that the USA has supported previous resolutions confirming genocide in other situations in the world, which were confirmed by international courts.
