We must be on the Right side of History, BiH did that

What is happening in Ukraine goes beyond all civil and other norms, and it is absurd that a country that does that participates in the Human Rights Council. That is why the decision to exclude Russia from this body was met with great approval by the member states of the United Nations, BiH Ambassador to the UN Sven Alkalaj told BHT1 BHRT.

As he said, people in life must be on the right side of history, and that this was an opportunity for BiH to repay the UN.

“A man cannot close his eyes to some things, no matter what price he pays. Because tomorrow, God forbid, if we found ourselves in a situation like ’92 -’95, we would ask the world to stand by us,” he stressed.

According to him, even if BiH remained restrained, that would not change the position of BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik.

“I see no reason, apart from his personal interest, to support Russia. Even the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, gave an order to support this initiative,” Alkalaj pointed out.

He said that BiH must remain committed to the European path.

“If we are not with Europe, and we are knocking on its door, looking for candidate status, NATO membership, we cannot expect any of that.”

Historian and diplomat Slobodan Soja also spoke about this topic for “BHT1 live”, who is of the opinion that it would be better for BiH to remain restrained in some situations.

“It would be smartest for us if we could always be silent. If it is best for the state to be neutral, it is to avoid internal conflicts,” he said.

According to him, the problem is that we cannot find a system by which we will function as a state.

“We have a terrible situation in BiH, because we cannot find a compromise.”

As he said, he is in favor of expelling Russia from the Committee, but to leave BiH neutral, “because everyone will understand that BiH cannot have a unified position.”

“Because of the higher interests of BiH and ‘peace in the house’, let’s say we are sorry, you know which side we are on and with the Ukrainian people, but this is a matter in which we must think first of all about us,” Soja pointed out.

He said that Europe is the future of BiH, but that “we must start acting as a team”.

“We dream of a time when we will have a three-member presidency that will be able to agree,” Soja stressed.
