A video was published on social networks that showed the situation in Sarajevo in the early 1990s, where you can see inserts from the gas station with the inscription “no fuel”, but also that food is sold on the street. It was filmed just before the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
In the video, the citizens say that it is difficult for them to survive for a month because their salaries have actually become worthless due to inflation.
So one young man said:
“I get a salary of 50 BAM and it can’t cover all expenses (how long would it take for you to spend it?) Given that I’m youngand I’m not married, it can last for ten days, and the rest of the time, you borrow it from old people, you have to figure something out, you resell something,”
At that time, some people sold foreign currency on the streets of Sarajevo. When asked how much one BAM costs on the black market, one of them answered:
“We pay 120, we sell 121”.
In the comments, many people from BiH commented that today there is plenty of food and everything on the shelves, but people don’t have enough money, so they drew a parallel.
