What makes a city smart – is it its innovative green technology, efficient public transportation, ample job opportunities, or a strong focus on sustainability?
According to the latest Smart Cities Index by the tech company ProptechOS, a combination of these factors contributes to the definition.
The platform analyzed everything from Wi-Fi accessibility to the number of trees, access to airports, and tech jobs, ultimately crowning a new ‘smartest city’ for 2024: Paris.
The French capital scored 91.8 out of 100 in connectivity and infrastructure, and 89.1 in the tech job market, though it only received 51.4 in green infrastructure, resulting in an overall score of 76.4.
Paris has overtaken the 2023 winner, London, which slipped to second place with a score of 73.1, although London performed much better in green infrastructure, scoring 63 in that category.
Third place went to Amsterdam with an overall score of 72.8, but an impressive 75.4 in green infrastructure, the highest on the list. Amsterdam is well-known for its developed cycling infrastructure and traffic, which undoubtedly contributed to its high ranking.
Berlin came in fourth with a score of 69, while Madrid secured fifth place with 68.5. Here is the complete list of the smartest cities in Europe: Paris, London, Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid, Lisbon, Stockholm, Luxembourg, Dublin, and Copenhagen, Biznis Info writes.
