United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping next Thursday, the White House announced.
Trump will, in the morning, attend a bilateral meeting with Xi, and in the evening will return to Washington, his spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said on Thursday.
Trump and Xi planned to meet on the margins of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea, which begins on October 31st, but the date was not publicly announced.
The U.S. president told reporters on Wednesday that he thinks the talks will lead to an agreement in the trade dispute between the two superpowers. However, he emphasized that if an agreement is not reached, the U.S. will, from November 1st, introduce additional tariffs of 100 percent on Chinese imports.
