Winter begins today in the northern hemisphere of the Earth.

Winter will begin at 10:20 a.m., while summer will begin for residents of the southern hemisphere of the Earth.

On the day of the beginning of winter, daylight is the shortest, and night is the longest.

The sun will rise at 7:12 a.m. and set at 3:59 p.m., which means that daylight will last eight hours and 47 minutes, and night 15 hours and 13 minutes.

Meteorologist Ana Stojanović told Srna news agency that on the first day of winter, snowfall will only occur in the east of the country.

Gradual clearing and cessation of precipitation are expected during the afternoon, but it will be colder.

“On Sunday, December 22, the air temperature will be below zero in the morning, with frost appearing in lower and higher areas,” Stojanović said.

She stated that snow is expected again on Monday, December 23, and that it will fall for the next two days.
