President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Saturday that almost 60% of the weapons used by the Ukrainian army come from domestic production, thereby already surpassing the goal he set just two months ago.
“During this war, Ukraine has reached the point where almost 60% of the weapons we have, the weapons in the hands of our soldiers, are produced in Ukraine. And these are powerful weapons, with many advanced features,“ Zelenskyy said in his regular evening address.
He emphasized that strengthening domestic weapons production is a key element in ensuring the country‘s future defense, and also reminded of a joint project with Denmark that foresees weapons production.
In July, Zelenskyy called on his restructured government to take measures to raise the share of domestic production to more than 50%. At that time, he stated that the Ukrainian army was using about 50% of domestic equipment, which was more than ever since gaining independence in 1991.
Ukraine is particularly focusing on the production of drones and the development of air defense systems, in order to respond to the intense attacks of Russian drones and missiles on Ukrainian cities. Officials also highlight the development of interceptor drones as an efficient and economical solution for suppressing Russian air attacks.
