Zvizdic-Guterres: The UN strongly supports BiH’s Euro-Atlantic Path

The Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdic met in New York with the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres.

During the meeting, Chairman Zvizdic thanked Guterres for the successful leadership of the United Nations in a particularly difficult time burdened by a pandemic and new challenges characterized by unpredictability and uncertainty.

Zvizdic informed the Secretary General of the United Nations about the current events in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He referred to the problems related to the unconstitutional blockade of the work of BiH state institutions. He said that all processes of economic progress, strengthening the rule of law and positive steps that BiH has taken in the previous period on the path to European and NATO integration have been stopped, it was announced from his Cabinet.

The statement states that Zvizdic also spoke about the activities of the RS entity on the seizure of competencies from the state and the attempt to appropriate state property, and stressed that there is no compromise when it comes to state property because Bosnia and Herzegovina is its only successor.

“He also stressed that the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is extremely difficult and that inaction in preventing the continuation of unconstitutional actions of individuals from the Republika Srpska entity may be a reason for delays in timely action that the crime of genocide has been adjudicated in international courts and is clearly defined in the laws and in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, “the statement said.

During the talks, Zvizdic stressed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s readiness to make a full contribution to resolving all issues within the United Nations, from conflict prevention to stronger promotion of human rights.

“In BiH, we are convinced that only a strong United Nations can help us collectively deal with human suffering caused by conflicts, poverty, food shortages, pandemics and epidemics, climate change and natural disasters,” Chairman Zvizdic said during the meeting.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said the United Nations is following and strongly supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Euro-Atlantic path.
