Yesterday, 37 planes landed at the Sarajevo International Airport, and the same number took off.

Sarajevo Airport serves, on average, over 11.000 passengers daily, and more than 75 flight operations are carried out on its runway.

Activities include landings, takeoffs, handling and dispatch of planes, passengers, and cargo…

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) has ranked among European countries with the most dynamic recovery in air traffic. This is stated in the Airports Council International (ACI) Europe report.

In the first half of 2025, the number of passengers increased by 31.1 percent compared to the same period in 2024, which is above the European average. Sarajevo Airport is highlighted in particular, being responsible for a large part of the growth, and today it operates at 107.1 percent compared to 2019. During the summer season, Sarajevo Airport hosts 31 airlines flying to 38 destinations, and over 1.2 million passengers were transported in the first seven months.

“In addition to “legacy” carriers (connections to Istanbul, Vienna, Frankfurt, Zurich), the LCC segment is key: Ryanair, Wizz Air, Norwegian, SunExpress, Eurowings, A-jet, Flynas, Flydubai, Flyadeal, Jazeera Airways, Pegasus – a total of 26 low-cost routes to cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Oslo, Copenhagen, Brussels, Stockholm, Bergamo, Girona, Gothenburg, Memmingen, Dusseldorf, Cologne, Stuttgart, Dubai, Riyadh, Jeddah, and others. The airport records excellent occupancy, and the new routes have opened significant international markets such as the United Kingdom (UK), France, Spain, and Italy. Infrastructure follows the growth, with the expansion and modernization of Terminal B (capacity up to 2 million passengers per year) completed, the apron extended, Duty Free modernized, and further improvements planned in line with the 2018-2028 Master Plan,” the Sarajevo International Airport reported.

According to experts, these positive results should be paralleled by the establishment of a national airline. Such a strategic step would be crucial for stabilizing connectivity, reducing dependence on foreign carriers, and further developing the market.
