news-2014-October-crkva_svetog_ante_bistrik_1_617053955Sarajevo – the academy on occasion of the marking of 100 years of the Saint Ante church at Bistrik was held yesterday. Friar Ivan Šarčević, the guardian of the Saint Ante monastery welcomed the attended while Friar Marko Karamatić spoke about the 100 years of the church and 120 years of the monastery.

“This is a chance to thank many people, many friars, because this was the spiritual, educational and administrative centre of the Bosnian Franciscans since the end of the 19th century until the 60ies and it remains a spiritual and cultural centre today too.” – said for FENA Friar Šarčević.

This is also an opportunity to remember the builder of the church, Josip Vancaš, who designed this new church in the neo-gothic style.

“In a certain way this is also a place of mercy, a place of spiritual importance often abstract to us, humans, as it is often with religion in general. A lot of people come here, not just Catholics but Muslims, Orthodox as well. Before the war it was a place of gathering for everyone, but it remains like that today too.” – said Friar Šarčević.

After the academy, the photo exhibition of the church and monastery as they were before and as they are today was open.
