The fund raising campaign to keep the Astronomical Society Orion was successfully completed. Through the Internet site Indiegogo to raise funds, 16.911 US dollars was collected. The campaign lasted two months, and 308 individuals and groups gave donations.
‘’The entire campaign had only positive reactions of citizens of B&H and abroad, as well as friends and enthusiasts of astronomy from the entire world. We also had huge support of the media from all over B&H. This all started with the launch of a global campaign through the Internet site and only a few days was necessary for all of B&H to find out about this initiative. This only confirmed our belief that we will achieve the set goal’’, said Tea Temin, an astrophysicist from Mostar who works for NASA.
Such actions are common throughout the world and are a way to raise money for a good cause, but also to demonstrate unity and commitment of citizens to jointly engage in an issue.
‘’This is the greatest success of this action, because citizens, through their support, practically gave their vote for the renovation of the Observatory, showed their willingness and desire to be involved, and what is most important, they gave us new motivation and approval to continue working’’, added Temin.
Members of AD Orion were included in this action, who have been working for years on popularizing astronomy in B&H. So far, they have conducted many activities, and in their work they focused mainly on working with high school students and those of college age.
