Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko Supervisor Michael Scanlan visited Bijeljina yesterday and met with Mayor Mićo Mićić, Deputy City Assembly Speaker Mustafa Gradaščević, and the Bijeljina Section for Local Economic Development and European Integration.

PDHR Scanlan welcomed hearing that Bijeljina authorities remain focused on growing the private sector and emphasizing social tolerance and inclusion. Scanlan and his interlocutors discussed the importance of local governments being in tune with the needs of the community and addressing those needs through responsive public services.

Scanlan visited the newly established Incubation Centre for Sustainable Development “InCOR”, an incubator for IT startups, which will allow young entrepreneurs in Bijeljina to create new companies and thus job opportunities in the dynamic and perspective sector of IT.

PDHR Scanlan further underscored the importance of ensuring transparency and accountability of public office, which are qualities that voters should keep in mind when they cast their ballots in November.

Scanlan applauded the authorities’ and citizens’ efforts at containing the spread of COVID-19, but as reports show, the threat of COVID-19 to public health remains very real. Thus, Bijeljina as a community needs to continue to closely observe the instructions and preventive recommendations issued by relevant authorities.
