Republika Srpska Interior Minister Dragan Lukac said on Friday in East Sarajevo that in the first six months of this year, the total number of crimes in Republika Srpska was reduced, but that the number of illegal migrants increased by almost 70% compared to the same period last year, Vijesti.ba news portal reports.

Speaking about illegal migrations, Lukac pointed out that the police officers of the Ministry of the Interior in the territory of Republika Srpska recorded 4,986 migrants in the first six months of this year, which is 69.2 percent more than last year in the same period.

He reminded that they crossed the border illegally and that most of them do not have documents, which makes it difficult to establish their identity.

“The total number of crimes has decreased by 10.5 percent compared to the same period in 2019,” said Lukac, who chaired a session of the extended collegium of RS interior ministers to discuss the report on the work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Republika Srpska and the security situation in Republika Srpska in the first half of the year.

Lukac stated that property crimes were reduced by 16.2 percent, and he especially pointed out the reduction of robberies by 68 percent.

He added that the number of serious thefts decreased by 21.3 percent, thefts by 8.1 percent, and vehicle thefts by 65.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

He added that in connection with drug abuse, the number of criminal acts increased by 23.9 percent, and the number of misdemeanor reports by 6.3 percent.
