American Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, in which he invites him to put pressure on the leader of HDZ BiH, Dragan Čović, to end the obstruction of the construction of the Southern Interconnection.
Let us remind you that this project involves the construction of a gas pipeline between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, the project is a stumbling block between the coalition partners in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Namely, HDZ BiH requested the formation of a new company that would also manage the Southern Interconnection, instead of BH-Gas.
So, similar to how in FBiH there are two electricity companies, two telecoms, etc.
On the other hand, the parties from Sarajevo insist that BH-Gas be in charge of the gas pipeline.
This gas pipeline is important to the Americans because it would reduce our country’s dependence on Russian gas, increase energy security, and take steps towards the gradual abolition of coal.
But for another reason. The construction of the project would make it possible for Bosnia and Herzegovina to consume American gas in the future, which arrives by ship in a liquefied state at the recently built terminal on the island of Krk in Croatia, from where it is distributed throughout Europe, Biznis Info writes.
