23 years ago today, the Srebrenica Memorial Center in Potočari was opened, a memorial and cemetery for the victims of the genocide of July 1995.
Built on the site of the former battery factory and base of the UN Dutch Battalion, at the place of the last meeting of the genocide victims, it is a permanent reminder of the scale of the genocide that the RS Army, led by the convicted war criminal Ratko Mladić, committed in Srebrenica.
Over the past 23 years, the Memorial Center, in addition to its key role in memorializing the truth, has also become one of the most significant research and educational institutions in Southeast Europe.
