With military honors by the Platoon of the Armed Forces of BiH, a prayer and a minute of silence, tribute was paid to the legendary commandant, the initiator of resistance of the Municipality of Novi Grad Sarajevo, and all his fellow fighters whose names will remain written in the history of the defensive-liberation war.

Flowers were laid at the memorial by the delegation of the Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality led by the Chairwoman of the Municipal Council Edina Gabela, delegations of the Sarajevo Canton and the City of Sarajevo, representatives of veterans’ associations, political parties, elementary school “Džemaludin Čaušević”, and the ceremony was also attended by members of late Safet Hadžić’s family.

Safet Hadžić was among the first organizers of resistance of BiH patriots who opposed the division of the country and organized the Patriotic League of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Hadžić died on April 18, 1992 in the action of drawing out armament from the factory “Pretis” in Vogošća. Together with Safet Hadžić, also killed that day were his fellow fighters Sead Velić, Nermin Zeljković, Fahrudin Čavčić, Almir Islamović and Senad Čirić.

After the laying of flowers, the delegations visited the site where the legendary commandant and his fellow fighters were killed within “Pretis” in Vogošća and Hadžić’s grave at the Kovači Cemetery. Representatives of the Novi Grad Sarajevo Municipality also visited the family of the late Safet Hadžić.
